Bonaventura Cano y Torrente OdeM (born July 14, 1779 in Nora , Asturias , † August 4, 1838 in Rome ) was an Asturian clergyman and curia bishop .

Life

Bonaventura Cano y Torrente, Italian Buenaventura Cano y Torrente entered the order of the Mercedarians and was ordained a priest for this order on December 17, 1803 . He taught philosophy, first in Salamanca, from 1821 in Valencia and became the Inquisitor of Murcia. After he had been elected procurator and vicar general of his religious community, he entered the service of the Curia on July 3, 1827 as consultor of the Congregation of the Holy Office .

Pope Gregory XVI appointed him on July 29, 1833 while retaining all functions in the Mercedarian Order as Titular Bishop of Magydus and on December 6 of the same year as Papal Assistant to the Throne . He was ordained bishop on February 16, 1834 in Rome by Cardinal Giacinto Placido Zurla OSB ; Co-consecrators were Archbishop Antonio Luigi Piatti and Bishop Giovanni Battista Sartori Canova . On September 11, 1834, Bonaventura Cano y Torrente was also appointed consultor of the Congregation for Bishops and Regulars .
