Bonaventura Hahn (* 1540 in Glogau , † June 29, 1602 in Olomouc ) was elected Prince-Bishop of Breslau . His choice was not recognized by Emperor Rudolf II .

Origin and career

Bonaventura Hahn's father was rector of the Glogau city school and later episcopal chancellor in Breslau. After attending the Neiss grammar school, Bonaventura attended the University of Vienna . In 1571 he received his doctorate in philosophy from the University of Ingolstadt .

In 1574 he became a canon in Breslau, and in 1575 he made a trip to Rome as the commissioner of Bishop Andreas von Jerin . There he studied as a student at the Roman College theology and received in 1577 in the Lateran Church , the priesthood . 1578 he received his doctorate in Bologna for both rights Doctor .

Elected Prince-Bishop of Breslau

After the death of Bishop Andreas von Jerin, the Wroclaw Cathedral Chapter elected Bonaventura Hahn as his successor in 1596, even though Emperor Rudolf II had suggested Paul Albert . Thereupon the emperor declared the election to be invalid. In 1599, Bonaventure had to resign, and the imperial candidate Paul Albert was elected to succeed him on May 5th that year. Pope Clement VIII confirmed Paul Albert's election on May 19, 1599.
