Bonaventure Zumbini

Bonaventura Zumbini (born May 10, 1836 in Pietrafitta , † March 21, 1916 in Portici ) was an Italian Romanist , Italianist and comparativeist .

life and work

Zumbini was self-taught to become a Romanist and in 1868 he went public with an academic writing that was praised by Francesco De Sanctis , with whom he had been known since his youth. In 1874 he became president of the Accademia Cosentina in Cosenza . After stays in Naples and Florence and other qualifying publications, he went to the University of Naples in 1877 , where he was professor of Italian literature from 1880 until his retirement in 1903 as successor to Luigi Settembrini (from 1881 to 1883 also rector). In 1905 he was appointed senator.

Zumbini was a member of the Accademia dei Lincei (1880). His scientific position was criticized by Benedetto Croce , but defended by Guido Mazzoni and Arturo Farinelli . A street in Milan is named after him.
