Bongénie Grieder

Bongénie Grieder is the umbrella brand under which Brunschwig & Cia SA, a subsidiary of Brunschwig Holding SA based in Geneva . The French-speaking company operates a total of eight Bongénie and nine Grieder fashion stores ( Bongénie in French-speaking Switzerland and Grieder in German-speaking Switzerland).

history

Adolphe Brunschwig opened the first shop under the name Bon Génie in Geneva in 1891 as a kind of bazaar for the working class. In 1903 he opened a branch in Lausanne , initially under the name "La Ménagère" ("The Housewife") and later under the name Bon Génie. His son Emile took over the management of the business in 1920. In 1947, the stores took the furniture items out of their range and henceforth focused on selling fashion items.

In the 1950s, the Bon Génie branch under the management of the third generation with Michel and Jean-Jacques Brunschwig organized parades and fashion photo series in Geneva, which were intended to highlight the image of the house as a stronghold of elegance in Switzerland. The group increasingly followed the concept of specialty stores in the USA.

From trading in household items in the early years, the Bongénie branches gradually specialized in the sale of ready-to-wear fashion, accessories, perfumes, cosmetics and decorative items. The range includes a selection for men, women and children with luxury brands from the middle of the upper segment such as Chanel , Gucci , Balenciaga , Stella McCartney , Valentino, Max Mara , Brunello Cucinelli , Ermenegildo Zegna and Tom Ford .

In 1972 the Brunschwig Group took over the Grieder clothing chain in German-speaking Switzerland and then opened a shop in Zurich . Later the Weilemann house in Bern and the Merkur store in Basel were bought back, both of which became Grieder branches.

The subsidiary Brunschwig & Cie SA achieved sales of CHF 207 million under the brand in 2013.

The opening of a new Grieder branch in the future The Circle business center at Zurich Airport is planned for 2018.

Parent company

Brunschwig Holding AG is a family-run company based in Geneva and owns shares in Hofstetter Sports AG (sports shop in Geneva), MXM AG (Max Mara and Weekend en Suisse) Buzzano AG, Eugène Baud AG and the communications agency Transphere and the office for interior design version B. Since the 1980s, the company has been run in the fourth generation by cousins ​​Anne-Marie de Picciotto, Jean-Marc, Nicolas and Pierre Brunschwig. The group also owns four restaurants and an e-shop.
