Bonnievale is a town in the municipality of Langeberg , Cape Winelands District , Western Cape Province in South Africa , 180 kilometers east of Cape Town and 30 kilometers southeast of Robertson on the banks of the Breede River . In 2011 the place had 9092 inhabitants. The city is framed by the Langeberg in the northeast and the Riviersonderend Mountains in the southwest.
history
In 1902, a railway stop called Vale was built on the Worcester – Voorbaai railway between the towns of Robertson and Swellendam . In 1917 this station received the status of a train station and the name Bonnivale . In 1922 a village administration was elected; In 1953 the village received city status.
economy
The Italian company Parmalat , based in Bonnievale, is one of the largest milk producers in the world. Cheese is also made there. Another mainstay of the city is viticulture with numerous cellars.
