Boris Buden

Boris Buden (* 1958 in Garešnica , SR Croatia , Yugoslavia ) is an Austrian philosopher and author.

Life

Boris Buden studied philosophy in Zagreb and received his doctorate in cultural studies from the Humboldt University in Berlin . Since 1984 he has been working as a freelance journalist , translator and publicist . In 1990 Buden moved to Vienna and took Austrian citizenship. He has lived in Berlin since 2003 . In the nineties Buden worked as a columnist and editor for the independent magazine Arkzin, Zagreb. Currently publications and lectures in German and English in the field of philosophy, cultural studies, social criticism and contemporary art . Participation in Documenta 11 in New Delhi (Platform 2, “Truth and Reconciliation”) and Kassel. Last published: Zone of Transition: From the End of Post-Communism, at Suhrkamp Verlag . Buden works for the EIPCP (European Institute for Progressive Cultural Policy) in Vienna.

Buden is a member of the movement Democracy in Europe 2025, founded in 2016 .
