Boris Kalin
Boris Kalin (born June 24, 1905 in Solkan , † May 22, 1975 in Ljubljana ) was a Yugoslav sculptor of Slovene descent .
biography
Boris Kalin left the Technical High School in Ljubljana and studied from 1924 to 1929 in Zagreb at the Academy of Fine Arts with Professors Rudolf Valdec , Frano Kršinić , Ivo Kredić and Ivan Meštrović .
Between 1945 and 1970 Kalin taught sculpture modeling at the Academy of Fine Arts in Ljubljana; there he was also dean twice . He trained a large number of young sculptors who became known all over Europe. Kalin was one of the few sculptors who was a trained master stone sculptor. In 1953 he was elected a full member of the Slovenian Academy of Science and Art .
He died in Ljubljana. His younger brother Zdenko Kalin was also a well-known sculptor.

Boris Kalin mainly created classically shaped representational portraits , art in public spaces and nudes .
He was honored three times for his work with the Great Prešeren Prize: in 1947 for his statue of the Fifteen-Year-Old Girl ( Petnajstletna ), who is said to represent his daughter, in 1948 for his portrait of Marshal Tito ( Portret Maršala Tita ) and in 1950 for his monument to the People's Liberation War ( Spomenik narodnoosvobodilni borbi ) in Vrhnika .
Some of his sculptures are in Brdo pri Kranju as part of the representative collection of modern Slovenian art.
