Boris Magaš

Boris Magaš (born August 22, 1930 in Karlovac ; † October 24, 2013 in Rijeka ) was a Yugoslav and Croatian architect .

Life

In 1955 he graduated from the University of Zagreb with a degree in architecture , where he then worked as a lecturer for several years. From 1967 he was head of the design department of the Zagreb architecture firm Interinženjering , from 1969 chief designer at Građevno projektni zavod (Institute for Building Projects) in Rijeka . At the University of Rijeka , where he obtained his doctorate in 1977 , he was Associate Professor from 1974 and Full Professor of Architecture from 1980. In 1983 he became full professor of architecture at the University of Zagreb; he retired in 2001.

The most famous building designed by Magaš is the Poljud Stadium in Split (1979). In addition to hotel complexes and university buildings, he also designed churches, for example the Augustin Kažotić Church of the Dominicans in the Zagreb district of Peščenica – Žitnjak (1998).

Boris Magaš became an associate member in 1988 and a full member in 1991 of the Yugoslav and Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts .
