Boris Wladimirowitsch Morukow ( Russian Борис Владимирович Моруков , scientific transliteration Boris Vladimirovič Morukov ; born October 1, 1950 in Moscow , Russian SFSR ; † January 1, 2015 ) was a Russian cosmonaut .

education

Boris Morukov attended the 2nd Moscow State Medical Institute "Nikolai I. Pigorow" in Moscow, from which he graduated in 1973 with a diploma in medicine. He then worked from 1978 at the Institute for Biomedical Problems in the fields of space, marine and aviation medicine, where he obtained his doctorate in medicine in 1979.

Morukow completed further training as a space doctor in cardiology , gastroenterology , otolaryngology , stomatology , ophthalmology and cardiopulmonary resuscitation between 1989 and 1991.

In 1995 Morukow attended advanced courses in emergency medicine and in 1996 he completed his training with courses in endocrinology and hematology .

Morukow was married and had two children.

Astronaut activity

From October 1990 to February 1992 Morukow received his basic cosmonaut training at the Juri Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center and from August 1998 to January 1999 a flight doctor training at the Johnson Space Center .

Morukow flew with STS-106 as an on-board doctor to the International Space Station (ISS).

Since 2009 he was head of the Mars flight simulation project Mars 500 .
