Borlești (German Burlescht , Hungarian Barlafalu ) is a small village in the municipality of Pomi in the Satu Mare district in northwest Romania .
Location and population
It is located between Satu Mare and Baia Mare . Approx. The Someș flows 5 km east of Borlesti . Today the place has around 900 inhabitants. The population consists mainly of Romanians and Roma .
history
Around 1700, Hungarian counts settled German families in Sathmar County , including Borleşti. Before the Romanian Revolution in 1989, there were around 50 German families living in the village, all but one family having emigrated. The houses were sold to Romanian families. Until 1989, German culture was cultivated by performing plays, performing folk dances and singing folk songs in the German language. The German community was Catholic and also had a church, the Sankt-Michael-Kirche. The Romanian community has an Orthodox church.
