Bornhöveder chain of lakes

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Bornhöveder chain of lakes form six lakes and is located about 25 km south of the city of Kiel in Schleswig-Holstein . The chain of lakes is part of the Wankendorfer lake area within Holstein Switzerland .

The Bornhöveder chain of lakes consists of the following lakes:

The Alte Schwentine flows through the first four lakes, the latter two are connected to the water network of the other lakes via receiving waters. The Alte Schwentine leaves the Stolper See at its northern end and flows on over the Postsee and the Schwentine into the Kiel Fjord .

Due to their chemical nature, all six lakes are predominantly eutrophic and rich in nutrients, have a high production of plankton and thus visibility depths of 1 to 2 meters. They belong to a dimictic - holomictic lake type with summer temperature stratification.
