The Bornholmmargerite ( Osteospermum ecklonis , Syn .: Dimorphotheca ecklonis DC.) Is a species of the cape basket ( Osteospermum ) in the Asteraceae family.

The Bornholmmargerite is an evergreen dwarf shrub that reaches heights of 25 to 50 centimeters. The leaves measure 5 to 10 × 1 to 4 centimeters and are downy glandular, narrowly obverse to traffic lanceolate and entire or toothed. The heads are on stems 15 to 20 centimeters long and have a diameter of 5 to 8 centimeters. The bracts are 13 to 16 millimeters long and glandular. The rays are white on the top and reddish blue on the underside. The disk is dark blue. The fruit surface is reticulate and wrinkled.

The flowering period extends from April to September.

Occurrence

The Bornholmmargerite occurs in South Africa in the Southeast Cape in Uitenhage and Humansdorp on damp lawns and in river beds at altitudes of up to 300 meters.

The Bornholmmargerite is widely used as an ornamental plant in pots, summer borders and window boxes. It is cultivated as an annual. There are numerous hybrids and varieties, including erect, up to 1.5 meters high and semi-recumbent. This species has been in culture since around 1920.
