Bossk is a post-metal band from Ashford formed in 2005 .

history

Named after a character from Star Wars , Bossk was founded in 2005 by singer Sam Marsh, second singer and guitarist Rob Vaughan, guitarist Andrew Waghon, bassist Tom Begley and drummer John Simmons. The band released their debut EP .1 the following year via QnotQ Records , followed by opening appearances for Cult of Luna , The Ocean , Yndi Halda , Baroness , Capricorns and The Hope Conspiracy . In 2007 the second EP .2 was released, also via QnotQ Records . The release followed national and international tour activities as opening act for Devil Sold His Soul , Ephel Duath , Kruger , Cult of Luna and Humanfly . In 2008 Corney and Vaughan left the band, the two musicians were replaced at short notice for the following independent international tour by John Simmons and Andrew Waghorn, but the band broke up in October of the same year. After two concluding concerts and the release of a video EP as well as a box set containing all previously released material, a split single was released as the final release together with Rinoa . The piece featured on the single is an unfinished version of a work piece from the album originally planned by the band.

In February 2012 the band announced that they would be coming together again for a BBC broadcast and two concerts. For this purpose, the two musicians Corney and Vaughan, who retired in 2008, rejoined the group as members and the two substitute musicians Simmons and Waghorn were not considered as band members. In the same year Bossk signed a contract with Deathwish Inc. and released the single Pick Up Artist . The first studio album, Audio Noir, followed in 2016 .

style

Bossk's music is classified as post-metal and post-rock . The website No Clean Singing sees the band with their progressive mix in the tradition of the Pink Floyd album The Piper at the Gates of Dawn and the post-rock band Godspeed You! Black Emperor and compares the music with that of other post-rock bands like Explosions in the Sky and Mogwai , but with vocals and perceptible aggression as a variant of Metal . Meanwhile, the metal part is also brought close to the sludge . The music varies between such aggressive and the contrasted dreamy sequences.

The guitar playing described as changeable oscillates between hard riffing and massive distortions to clear guitar playing and arpeggiated chords. The drumming is described as fresh, but mostly rated subordinate to the sound of the rest of the band. The bass game, on the other hand, is rated as equivalent to the guitars, in some cases even as a central instrument. It is roaring in the hard passages and melodious in the quieter passages , but always conveys a smooth groove . The guttural singing , described as vicious screaming, would be reduced but used at the right time .
