Rinoa was a post-hardcore band founded in 2007 and disbanded in November 2010 .
history
The band was founded in 2007 by singer Perry Bryan, guitarists Matthew Holden and Jozef Norocky, bassist David Gumbleton and drummer James May in Essex after the musicians' previous bands broke up. The group released a first self-titled EP produced by Johnny Renshaw of Devil Sold His Soul in 2008 via Eyesofsound. Konstantin Hanke criticized the EP for the Ox-Fanzine . Because of his lack of independence, he has "the feeling of listening to (bad) plagiarism."
In the following years the band played various concerts and festival appearances in Great Britain and the Netherlands. Meanwhile, a split EP with Bossk was released in 2009 as well as the debut album An Age Among Them and a corresponding single in 2010. The album was rated by critics as a little innovative, but "solid thing on familiar terrain". Other reviews praised An Age Among Them as a good album in the genre.
During the tour in the Netherlands, Holden left the group. Gurneet Ahluwalia helped out as a guitarist in his place. After Holden's decision to leave the group, the band decided to fulfill their obligations and subsequently to quit Rinoa. Finally, the group made a previously booked last tour through Great Britain.
style
Rinoa's music is classified as post-hardcore and occasionally post-metal . Genre representatives such as Envy , Hopesfall , Neurosis , Bossk, Cult of Luna , Devil Sold His Soul, Isis , Red Sparowes and Mono are named for comparison . Envy and Hopesfall are used as references by the band themselves.
In rock sound , the music is described as a mixture of "gentle post-rock loneliness, thunderous riffing and deadly, heartfelt roar ". Joachim Hiller from Ox-Fanzine emphasizes that An Age Among Them " comes across as 'more hardcore ' than many of today's 'post-bands'".
