Georg Reinhold Hermann von Albedyll (born October 5, 1835 in Liebenow , † December 16, 1907 in Potsdam ) was a Prussian general of the cavalry .

Life

Georg was a son of the Prussian lieutenant ret. D. August Friedrich Ludwig von Albedyll (1793–1865) and his wife Ernestine Ulrike, née von Wedel (1801–1863) from the Blankensee house. His father was the master of Liebenow and Karlshof. The later Prussian general of the cavalry Emil von Albedyll (1824-1897) was his older brother.

Military career

Albedyll attended the Friedrich-Wilhelm-Gymnasium in Stettin and from April to the end of September 1852 graduated from the military preparation institute of the lieutenant a. D. Crusius. He then joined the 2nd Cuirassier Regiment of the Prussian Army as an avantageur . He was promoted to second lieutenant until mid-April 1854 , acted as regimental adjutant from May 21, 1860 and in this capacity became prime lieutenant in mid-January 1863 . During the war against Austria in 1866, Albedyll took part in the battles at Soor , Münchengrätz , Königgrätz and Blumenau as the leader of the mobile 1st squadron . After the end of the war, Albedyll rose to Rittmeister and squadron chief .

For the duration of the war against France in 1870/71 he was in command of the cavalry staff guard of the Great Headquarters . He took part in the fighting at Gravelotte , Beaumont and Sedan and the siege of Paris . Awarded the Iron Cross II. Class, he was briefly leader of the replacement squadron of his main regiment in Pasewalk after the conclusion of peace and was then commanded as an adjutant to the General Command of the II Army Corps in early 1872 . In this position Albedyll mid-April 1872 was awarded the character as a Major and two months later the patent to his rank. On October 16, 1873, he returned to his regiment as a regular staff officer and on April 18, 1878, he was promoted to lieutenant colonel . On May 3, 1878, he was appointed commander of the Neumärk Dragoon Regiment No. 3 in Treptow an der Rega . In position à la suite of his regiment, he was appointed as a colonel to command the 3rd Cavalry Brigade in Stettin on March 11, 1886 . At the same time, in the spring of 1887, Albedyll was also a member of the commission for examining and advising on field service regulations. With the award of the Order of the Crown, 1st Class, Albedyll was put up for disposal on April 8, 1893 with the statutory pension .

After his departure he was given the character of General of the Cavalry on March 22, 1897. In recognition of his many years of service, Kaiser Wilhelm II also awarded him the uniform of the Cuirassier Regiment "Queen" (Pomeranian) No. 2 on October 22, 1904.
