Botryobasidium ellipsosporum is a mushroom species from the family of grape basidia relatives (Botryobasidiaceae). It forms resupinate, cobweb-like fruiting bodies thatgrowon dead wood . Botryobasidium ellisposporum is only known from a few localities in Central Europe. The anamorphic of the species has been described under the name Haplotrichum ellipsosporum .

features

Macroscopic features

Botryobasidium ellipsosporum has freshly whitish, dry cream-colored, spider-like fruiting bodies, which grow resupinate (i.e. completely adjacent) on their substrate and appear slightly reticulate under the magnifying glass. They are 0.75-1.1 mm thick.

Microscopic features

As with all grape basidia , the hyphae structure of Botryobasidium ellipsosporum is monomitic , i.e. it consists only of generative hyphae that branch out at right angles. The basal hyphae are hyaline , narrow (mostly 8–9  µm wide) and strongly cyanophilic. The 3.5–4.5 µm thick subhymenial hyphae are hyaline , short-celled, thin-walled and cyanophilic. The species does not have cystids or buckles . The six- to eight-pore basidia of the species grow in nests and are sub-cylindrical to cylindrical. The spores are ellipsoidal to slightly spindle-shaped and mostly 8–10 × 3.5–4 µm in size.

distribution

The distribution of Botryobasidium ellipsosporum is limited to Central Europe with the Czech Republic and southern Germany.

ecology

Botryobasidium ellipsosporum is a saprobiont that colonizes dead wood .
