Bottenau is a district of the city of Oberkirch in the Ortenau district in Baden-Württemberg . The place is 2 km west of the core area of Oberkirch.

history

Bottenau was not formed as an independent municipality until 1935. The eponymous place was first mentioned in 1296 as Botnowe and belonged to the municipality of Durbach until 1935. The hamlets of Diebersbach (mentioned in 1381 as Diepolczbach) and Schlatten (in 1381 as "in the Slatten") belonged to the municipality of Butschbach until 1935 and Meisenbühl (mentioned in 1432 as "uff der Egesen") to the dissolved municipality of Herztal. Herztal (first mentioned in 1346 “zu Hetzelis” and today part of the Nussbach district) has been the name of the Meisenbühl community since 1846, when it was newly formed from several hamlets.

In the Middle Ages, probably as early as the 14th century, the front part of Bottenau belonged to the Landvogtei Ortenau. Within the Landvogtei it was part of the Appenweier Regional Court.

Bottenau was incorporated into Oberkirch on January 1, 1975.
