history

The Oberkircher Winzergenossenschaft was founded on October 14, 1951, then as the “Renchtäler Winzergenossenschaft”, by 21 winemakers who initially cultivated around 28 hectares of vineyards . Today the Oberkirch wine cooperative is a major employer in the Renchtal . In 2009, Oberkircher Winzer eG invested EUR 3.5 million in bottling in order to be able to fill the wines faster, more flexibly and with the latest technology. In 2015, 250,000 euros were invested in mash fermentation tanks, and in 2017 3.6 million euros in new cellars, a semi-automatic pallet warehouse, barrique cellars and a showroom (Vinotorium).

Since 2013 the Oberkirch wine cooperative has been cooperating with the Hex vom Dasenstein wine cellar in Kappelrodeck in the areas of bottling, logistics and sales. Merger talks between the two cooperatives have been taking place since July 2018. In addition to the cooperative's 485 hectares of vineyards, around 185 hectares would be added to the Kappelrodeck district.

On November 27, 2018, the general assemblies for the merger of Oberkircher Winzer eG with Winzerkeller Hex vom Dasenstein eG took place in Kappelrodeck and on November 28, 2018 in the Klingelberghalle in Oberkirch-Haslach. In a secret ballot, the members in Kappelrodeck with 85% and in Oberkirch with 88% of the members present agreed to a merger of the two companies. This means that nothing stands in the way of merging the two farms into a new farm with 672 hectares of vineyards.

Grape varieties

Originally the Riesling (also called Klingelberger in the Renchtal ) was the most widely grown grape variety. Over the years, this has shifted to the Blue Pinot Noir. The following grape varieties are currently being cultivated by the cooperative's winemakers:
