Klingelberger

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Klingelberger is a local name for the white wine variety Riesling in central Ortenau ( Baden ). According to a document, the synonym Klingelberger for Riesling was used for the first time in the wine village of Durbach on the winery of the Margrave of Baden . The name is also used for Riesling from the wine towns of Oberkirch , Ortenberg , Offenburg and the wine cooperative in Rammersweier , Zell-Weierbach and Fessenbach . However, there are only two vineyards with the registered designation "Klingelberg" in the wine-growing community of Oberkirch. The name Klingelberg is also considered a quality feature, since the Klingelberg is a good growing location for Riesling.

location

The Klingelberg forms the uppermost part of the Schlossberg directly at Schloss Staufenberg in Durbach . In the Wine Law of 1971 the Klingelberg was not shown as a single vineyard . Today it covers 2.5 hectares on a steep slope . It has been planted exclusively with Riesling since 1782, making it the oldest single-varietal Riesling vineyard in Baden. At over 400 meters above sea level, it is also one of the highest Riesling plantations in Germany, which, thanks to the steep southern slope, is still very mature.

history

In 1782, the then Margrave Carl Friedrich von Baden had 2200 two-year-old Riesling spices from the famous Bergen vineyard and another 1,500 Riesling seedlings from a vineyard near Frankfurt planted in his vineyard at Staufenberg Castle in the Klingelberg region. That was the first varietal wine-growing in all of Baden. The saplings thrived and the grape juice that came out of them was also made single-variety. The quality of the Riesling from the Klingelberg quickly made the rounds in the region, and not only the "Klingelberger" found many buyers, but also the vine-spices from the Klingelberg found increasing sales. The "Klingelberger" quickly became synonymous with a quality Riesling from the Ortenau region. Today the "Klingelberger" is simply a synonym for good Riesling from central Ortenau.
