Boufarik is a city with approx. 72,000 inhabitants in the Blida province in Algeria .
The story of Boufarik began in 1835 when the French army established a permanent base in what is now the urban area during the conquest of Algeria. Bertrand Clausel officially founded Boufarik as a community in 1836.
Boufarik makes a living from processing oranges. The soft drink Orangina was produced in Boufarik from 1936 to 1962. The Algerian army also operates an air force base at Boufarik airfield . The worst aircraft accident in Algerian aviation history occurred near that airfield on April 11, 2018, when an Ilyushin Il-76 crashed into a field shortly after take-off and burned out (see plane crash near Boufarik ).
Boufarik is located on National Road 1, which has been developed like a motorway here . The city has a train station on the Algiers-Oran railway line.
