Bouné is a rural community in the Gouré department in Niger .

geography

Bouné lies at the transition from the Sahel to the Sudan landscape and borders the neighboring state of Nigeria in the south . The neighboring communities in Niger are Gouré and Guidiguir in the north, Goudoumaria in the east and Gouchi and Malawa in the west. The municipality is divided into 124 administrative villages, 57 traditional villages, 39 hamlets, 25 camps and a water point. The main town of the rural municipality is the administrative village of Bouné.

history

At the beginning of the 19th century Ibrahim, son of Hadji Goarimi, was the ruler of Bouné. Through conquests he succeeded in establishing the political unity of the Mounio area , which belonged to the Bornu Empire . Ibrahim's son Kosso moved his manor to the city of Gouré. Bouné fell to France at the beginning of the 20th century . The markets in the villages of Grémaria Kabia and Zagari, which belong to Bouné, were among the small markets in the region that were then approved by the French administration. The village of Karguéri developed in the 1960s into an important center for the cultivation of peanuts , Niger's most important export at the time. In 1962/1963 24.7 tons of peanuts were produced in Karguéri, in 1967/1968 it was already 427.4 tons. The rural community of Bouné emerged in 2002 as part of a nationwide administrative reform from the canton of Bouné, from which part of the rural community of Guidiguir was added.

population

At the 2001 census, Bouné had 48,274 inhabitants. For 2010, 65,544 inhabitants were calculated. Members of the mainly arable Kanuri subgroup Manga live in Bouné .

politics

In the local elections in July 2004, Damao Mamadou ( PNDS-Tarayya ) was elected mayor. On April 15, 2010, the Council of Ministers appointed Almoustapha Charfo as Administrator ( Administrateur Délégué ) of the municipalities of Bouné, Guidiguir and Kellé .

Economy and Infrastructure

The community is located in a zone where rain-fed agriculture is practiced.
