Bourscheid (noble family)
The Lords of Bourscheid were a middle-Moselle noble family from Bourscheid Castle (now a ruin) on the Sauer near Diekirch in Luxembourg.
history
The family first appears in a document in 1122 with Theodericus de Bourscheidt and begins its line of genes in 1233 with Soyer (Sohier) , Lord of Bourscheid. Bernhard IV von Bourscheid bequeathed the rule of Bourscheid to his two sisters Maria von dem Weiher zu Nickenich and Wilhelma von der Neuerburg in 1512 , a century later it came to the Metternich .
In 1642 they inherited the Röthgen Castle in Eschweiler in the Rhineland and in 1692 Karl Wilhelm Freiherr von Bourscheidt became the owner after disputes over inheritance had ended. Röthgen remained in the family's possession for 250 years until it was sold in 1950. In 1813 Franz Nikolaus von Bourscheidt also acquired Haus Rath in Düren in the Rhineland , which was inhabited by descendants until it was sold in 2007, but suffered damage from the nearby open-cast lignite mine.
From 1451 Veynau Castle was owned by the family and from the beginning of the 18th century until 1836 Burgbrohl Castle .
coat of arms
The family coat of arms (oldest seal from 1253) shows three (2: 1) red water lily leaves in silver . On the helmet with red and silver covers an open silver flight covered with the shield image.
