It forms the highest elevation of the Augstkamm in the Dead Mountains and is located northeast of the striking Loser summit. Towards the northwest, the mountain, made of Tressenstein limestone from the Upper Jura, is shaped by the steep drop to the Gschwandalm and the Rettenbachtal. From this path, hiking trail no. 257 branches off to the left and leads over the Bräuningalm to the Gschwandsattel ( 1730  m ) and on to the summit at 1899  m . Walking time around two hours.

At the summit of the Bräuningzinkens there is a summit book at the summit cross.
