Brünig-Haupt (middle) |
The Brünig main (also Brünighaupt or short main ) is with a height of 2312 m above sea level. M. the highest point in the area of the municipality of Sachseln in the canton of Obwalden in central Switzerland . The mountain lies between the Älggi-Alp belonging to Sachseln (with the center of Switzerland) and the Alp Melchsee-Frutt belonging to the municipality of Kerns .
etymology
The name of the mountain has nothing to do with the Brünig Pass, which is about eight kilometers to the southwest as the crow flies . This is named after the nearby town of Brünigen , which belongs to Meiringen and whose name comes from the color brown (Swiss German: brun , adjective: brunig / brünig ). Regardless of this, it can be assumed that the name of the mountain is also derived from the color.
Assignment
The main part belongs to the Unterwaldner Voralpen and thus to the Lucerne and Unterwaldner Voralpen (subsection 14.III of the SOIUSA classification).
Situation, ascent
The summit is on the municipal boundary between Sachseln and Kerns. This follows the ridge from Abgschütz to the southwest over the Chli Haupt (Kleines Haupt, also: Murmelchopf , 2255 m above sea level ) to the Haupt and further north along the Schnidengrätli.
Access is only possible via alpine mountain hiking routes (T5; Fels II), for example via the brittle north edge. The somewhat easier route, however, leads over the Abgschütz , a small plateau in the triangle between Brünig-Haupt, Seefeldstock ( 2128 m above sea level ) and Rotstöck ( 1897 m above sea level ) and at the end of the ridge of the Hochstollen that tapers to the north ( 2480 m above sea level ). A refuge has stood on the Abgschütz since 2013, which is a copy of the Grassen bivouac. The Abgschütz can be reached from Melchsee-Frutt via a hiking trail past the Blausee . It can also be reached from the Älggi-Alp via the Sachsler Seefeld and a hiking trail on the Seefeldstock and via the Chringengrätli. Alternatively, the European ladder can be reached from the Sachsler Seefeld to the south in mostly pathless terrain, which leads directly to the Abgschütz on the almost vertical rock. From there you follow the ridge in a northeasterly direction. The Chli Haupt can easily be climbed or bypassed on the right.
The Steinmanndli on the pre-summit is surmounted by a large cross on the highest point. The view extends over the Melchsee-Frutt (with Blausee, Melchsee and Tannensee ) and from Lucerne to Interlaken and the Bernese Alps .
On Melchsee-Frutt, the head forms the imposing cornerstone of the rock chain that delimits the high plateau to the west. From here you can see the impressive east flanks and the sharp north bend.
