Brno Local Railway Company
The Brno Local Railway Company (BLEG; Czech. Brněnská společnost místních drah ) was a private local railway company in Austria , whose routes were in what is now the Czech Republic .
history
The Brno Local Railway Company originally operated the Brno tram . Only later did the company acquire concessions for the construction of local railways in South Moravia as well as in the Moravian-Silesian industrial area .
In 1884 the company, still operating as the Brno Steam Tramway , operated its first steam tram in Brno. It was not until 1886 that the name was changed to Brno Local Railway Company . In 1893 the Brno Local Railway Company acquired the first concessions for tram-like local railways around Moravian Ostrau .
In 1898 the tram company in Brno was sold to the Austrian Union Elektrizitäts-Gesellschaft in Vienna .
The Brno Local Railway Company received on July 14, 1899 the license to build the local railway from Mutenitz via Dubnian to Gaya from the Imperial and Royal Ministry of Railways .
The Brno Local Railway also included the railway line from Priwoz via Mährisch-Ostrau to Witkowitz and the local railway from Mährisch-Ostrau to Ellgoth, approved with a concession from March 13, 1899 . They also built a tow to the Rudolfschacht.
From 1920 the company traded as Společnost moravských místních drah (Moravian Local Railway Company). In 1947 the company became the municipal property of the City of Ostrava . On January 1, 1949, the company was renamed Dopravní podnik města Ostravy (Ostrava City Transport Company ).
