Bram Tchaikovsky (* 10. November 1950 as Peter Bramall in Lincolnshire , England ) is a British singer and guitarist .
Life
Tchaikovsky played in local rock bands in his hometown of Lincolnshire from the late 1960s. In 1977 he was one of the founding members of The Motors . He played on the band's first two albums, both of which were able to place themselves in the British album charts and throw off several hit singles. The fate of the motors was directed by the band's two songwriters, Andy McMaster and Nick Garvey . Dissatisfied with the situation, Tchaikovsky took the single Sarah Smiles during the production of the second band albumon. With this single he was able to sign his own record deal with the newly founded label Radar and to found his own band under his name. Other members were bassist Micky Broadbent and drummer Keither Boyce. The first album Strange Man, Changed Man contained Sarah Smiles and the song Girl of My Dreams , written by Ronald Thomas, the bassist of the Heavy Metal Kids . Mike Oldfield , who played the Tubular Bells , was a guest musician . Decoupled as a single , the title was placed in 1979 at position 37 on the Billboard Hot 100 . The album reached number 36 on the Billboard 200 in the wake of the successful single . In Europe, meanwhile, there was no success, only in the Netherlands was Sarah Smiles a respectable success with 32nd place .
Tchaikovsky released two more albums, which reached the bottom of the chart, but did not produce any more hit singles. The second album The Russians Are Coming was distributed in the USA under the name Pressure . The lack of success caused Tchaikovsky to withdraw from the music business. In 2018, the band's three albums were re-released as a box set on CD.
