Career
Brandon Inge was selected by the Detroit Tigers in the 1998 second round of the MLB Draft . He played as a catcher until 2004 , but was transferred to third base after the acquisition of Iván Rodríguez .
In the first half of 2006, he hit 17 home runs , the second-most of his team, but only had a batting average of .221. In the second half he beat .251 and the second most of the Tigers with 27 homers. On October 27, 2006, the closer of the St. Louis Cardinals , Adam Wainwright reached in game 5 of the 2006 World Series in the ninth inning the last and decisive out against Inge, who ended the game with a strikeout and made the Cardinals World Series Champion.
In 2008 he temporarily returned to his previous position as catcher after the Tigers transferred Ivan Rodriguez to the New York Yankees in July 2008 . The 2009 season began Inge, however, again as a third baseman. For the first time that year, he was elected to the American League All-Star Team . After the end of the season he had to undergo surgery on both knees, but was able to play on third base again at the beginning of the 2010 season . On August 26, 2010, he reached his 1000th hit in a game against the Kansas City Royals . One month later, on September 25, 2010, his 1,100th strikeout came - a new team record. After the season ended, Inge extended his contract with the Tigers for another two years for $ 11.5 million.
