Branislau Adama Petrovich Taraschkewitsch ( Belarusian Браніслаў Адамавіч Тарашкевіч , Russian Бронислав Адамович Тарашкевич , Polish Bronislaw Adamowicz Taraszkiewicz ; born January 8 jul. / 20th January  1892 greg. In Mačiuliškės , Russian Empire , now Lithuania , † 29. November 1938 in Minsk ) was the founder of Tarashkewitsa , the classic Belarusian spelling.

Tarashkewitsch went to school in Vilnius from 1906 to 1911 , then studied at the University of Saint Petersburg . There he began to develop a Belarusian grammar under the guidance of Alexei Shachmatov . After the October Revolution he took part in the publication of the magazine Dzjannitsa ( Bringer of Light ). In 1922 he became a member of the Polish Sejm , where he was the chairman of the Belarusian party from 1922 to 1924. He was closely connected to the KPSB, the Communist Party of Western Belarus , which is why he was arrested by the Polish authorities in 1927. In September 1933 he was released through an exchange of prisoners against Frantischek Olechnowitsch . In 1938 he fell victim to the Great Purge .
