Branko Karabatić

Branko Karabatić (* 1955 in Trogir , SFR Yugoslavia ; † May 11, 2011 ) was a Yugoslav or Croatian handball player in the position of goalkeeper . After his active career, he also worked as a trainer . He is the father of the two handball players Nikola and Luka Karabatić .

Life

Karabatić's first professional station was RK Železničar Niš . He was appointed for the Yugoslav selection , but was not part of the squad for the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow . In 1985 he moved to Strasbourg and began an engagement with ASL Robertsau Handball , with which he immediately won the title in the fourth division ( National 2 ). His wife Lala and his first-born son Nikola the previous year initially remained in Yugoslavia; after she had finished her studies, both moved to France. His second son Luka was born in Strasbourg in 1988.

Karabatićs other player stations were Colmar and Frontignan.

With the Tunisian men's national handball team , he was responsible for the goalkeepers as assistant coach alongside Zoran Živković since September 2008 . He also worked as a goalkeeping coach for the French first division club Montpellier AHB .

Branko Karabatić died on May 11, 2011 after a long illness. On August 24, 2011, the handball hall of the Club de Handball de la Robertsau in Robertsau , a district of Strasbourg , was renamed “Salle Branko Karabatić” in his honor.
