The brown Congo tetra ( Phenacogrammus deheyni , syn .: Hemigrammalestes interruptus ) is a freshwater fish from the African tetra family (Alestidae). He lives in the central Congo Basin in the Democratic Republic of the Congo . The type locality is at Lisala .

The brown Congo tetra reaches a maximum body length of up to 10 centimeters and is brownish in color, with a dark longitudinal band on the back of the body. The sideline is incomplete. The sexually mature males differ from the females by a more colorful appearance and the elongated central caudal fin rays.

Way of life

The brown Congo tetra is a schooling fish . He lives bentho pelagic at an average water temperature of 24 to 27 ° Celsius and subdued lighting conditions. It feeds on all kinds of microorganisms, preferably insects.

Aquaristics
