Breathe (band)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Breathe was a British band from Surrey , which consisted of the singer David Glasper (born January 4, 1965 ), the drummer Ian Spice (September 28, 1966) and the guitarist Marcus Lillington (born February 28, 1967).

biography

The members, who had known each other since childhood, attended Yately School in London . Together with other students, they first formed a six-member band called Catch 22. After school, some musicians left the group and the trio Breathe emerged, which was reinforced by the bassist Michael Delahunty during studio recordings and live performances . The music of the formation was a mixture of soul and pop with subtle jazz influences . The first demo tapes were made in 1984.

Some of the Breathe tracks were well received by the Siren Records label, which earned the group a record deal . The band's biggest hit was Hands to Heaven . The song reached number two in the US in 1988 , number four in the UK and number 29 in Germany . The follow-up single How Can I Fall was also a great success, rising to number three on the Billboard charts in September of that year and number 48 on the UK charts in December.

The accompanying debut album All That Jazz was placed in the English and American Top 40 in 1988 and a little later, in February 1989, in the German Top 50. The release Jonah made it to number 60 in the UK shortly after the album entered the charts. A remix of the song Don't Tell Me Lies , which was released in 1985, climbed to 10th place in the US and 45th in England in early 1989.

In 1990 the second Breathe album Peace of Mind followed , which could not build on the success of the debut and only reached number 116 in the US charts. The extractions Say a Prayer (No. 21) and Does She Love That Man? (34th place) were also listed in the American charts. After falling success, the band broke up in 1991. In 2004 the compilation Best of Breathe was released .
