history

In 1970, Wolf Peter Bree (1945–1996) founded the Bree Collection company with his wife Renate and put the focus of the range on handbags that are handcrafted from high-quality natural leather. Expansion abroad began in 1976 with the first deliveries to Switzerland. In 1993 there were 27 franchise shops in Germany and trading partners in Hong Kong , Japan , the USA , Canada , Switzerland and Luxembourg . In the same year the company moved to Isernhagen near Hanover . In the years that followed, the range was expanded to include more women's and men's bags and a range of luggage .

From 2001 to 2011, both of the founder's sons, Axel and Philipp Bree, were managing directors. For the year 2002 the turnover was estimated at an amount between 150 and 200 million euros. In 2006 sales were around € 50 million.

In 2011, Axel Bree became sole managing director. He realigned the collection and positioned the BREE brand in the upper price segment. When a non-family investor consortium took over the majority in Bree Collection GmbH in 2014, Axel Bree remained managing director and minority shareholder. In January 2018, Axel Bree left the company and sold his shares to the investor consortium already involved. Heidi Otto has been running the company as CEO since August 2019, succeeding Stefanreiber, who took over the management after Axel Bree left the company.

The Süddeutsche Zeitung estimated sales in 2013 to be around € 50 million; there are no official company figures. According to the business information service Bürgel Wirtschaftsinformationen GmbH & Co. KG, sales in 2013 amounted to € 11.7 million after € 13.57 million in 2012, a decrease of 13.76%.
