Bremen is a community-free settlement in Cullman County in the US state of Alabama . It is located approx. 60 km north of Birmingham, Alabama . The city was founded as the Empire in 1860 and was renamed in 1879.

Bremen is located in northern Alabama in the southern United States. It is located approximately 13 miles east of 733 square kilometers William B. Bankhead National Forest and approximately 2 miles south of 85 square kilometers Lewis Smith Lake .

Nearby locations include Dodge City (5 km northeast), Colony (7 km southeast), Good Hope (13 km northeast), and Hanceville (18 km northeast). The next larger city with 212,000 inhabitants is about 50 kilometers south of Birmingham .

history

In 1860 the place was founded with the name Empire . In order to avoid confusion with Empire , the name was changed in 1879 based on the city of Bremen in Germany .

Bremen is located on Alabama State Route 69 , which connects 11 kilometers east to Interstate 65 .

Walker County Airport is approximately 32 kilometers to the west and Cullman Regional Airport-Folsom Field is 32 kilometers northeast , and Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport is 50 kilometers south .

Demographics

The United States Census in 1880 found a population of 51 in Bremen . Since then, no separate numbers have been reported in any of the subsequent censuses for Bremen.

At the time of the United States Census 2000 , the Census County Division (CCD) Bremen, including the Colony settlement (part of Dodge City and part of Good Hope ) had 8198 inhabitants. The population density was 33.2 people per km 2 , with 3,158 households and 2,488 families living in the CCD. 92.6% of the population were white, 5.98% black and less than one percent belonged to other races ; less than one percent were in two or more races, and Hispanics or Latinos were in the same range . The median age was 37.3 years and 24.5% of the population was under age. 8.5% of the residents were between the ages of 18 and 24 years, 28.8% between 25 and 44 years, 26.1% between 45 and 64 years and 12% were older than 65 years. For every 100 women there were 101.4 men.

According to the 2010 census , 8283 people in 3297 households and 2450 families lived in this CCD. There were 4186 residential units. 93.3% of the residents were white, 4.4% African American, 0.4% Native American and 0.2% Asian. 0.5% belonged to another race . 1.1% belonged to two or more races. 1.1% of the population have Latin American or Hispanic ancestry .
