Left tributaries | False Creek, East Fork Little Bremner River |
The Bremner River is a 40 miles long left tributary of the Copper River in south-central Alaska .
The Bremner River arises at the confluence of the North Fork and Middle Fork Bremner River in the Chugach Mountains in Wrangell-St.-Elias National Park . It flows west through the Chugach Mountains. Below the Threemile Canyon , the South Fork Bremner River flows into the river from the left. Further down the valley, the Little Bremner River joins the Bremner River from the right. This turns south just before the east bank of the Copper River and only flows 16 km further south into the Copper River.
The river was named in 1885 by Henry Tureman Allen after John Bremner, a prospector who had traveled the Copper River the year before. Allen also documented Tetahena as the native name for the river.
Tributaries
The 32 km long North Fork Bremner River is fed by the North Fork glacier tongue of the Bremner Glacier . It flows 25 km in a westerly direction and turns south in the last few kilometers before it joins the Middle Fork Bremner River. On the lower section of the river, the North Fork Bremner River flows through the Twelvemile Canyon .
The Middle Fork Bremner River forms the southern headwaters of the Bremner River. It arises below the Middle Fork glacier tongue of the Bremner Glacier and flows 25 km to the junction with the North Fork Bremner River.
The South Fork Bremner River flows into the Bremner River 19 km below the junction of the North Fork and Middle Fork. The South Fork Bremner River is 14 miles long and is fed by the Fan Glacier .
The Little Bremner River is a right tributary of the Bremner River. It is fed by an unnamed glacier 5.5 km west of Upper Tebay Lake . The Little Bremner River initially flows east-southeast. Later it turns to the south-southeast and, after the confluence of the East Fork Little Bremner River, finally to the southwest. The Little Bremner River flows into the Bremner River 14 km east of the Copper River. An alluvial fan has formed as a result of the sediment being deposited.
