Brett Alexander Blake Lindros (born December 2, 1975 in London , Ontario ) is a retired Canadian ice hockey player . During his career he played for the New York Islanders in the National Hockey League . He is the younger brother of Eric Lindros .
Career
Lindros began his career in the 1992/93 season, in which he played for the Kingston Frontenacs from the Ontario Hockey League and the Canadian national team. The following season also went on, where he played the greater part of the games this time for the national team on an international level. Despite a relatively meager points haul of 32 points in 46 games in the OHL, an already recovering from knee surgery and several concussions that had forced him in his junior time again and again breaks that elected him New York Islanders in the NHL Entry Draft in 1994 in the first round in ninth position overall, as it impressed Lindros' physical presence, which his brother Eric had shone as a junior player.
The New York Islanders got him to sign a five-year contract with an average salary of $ 1.5 million a year after an impressive training camp in September before the 1994/95 season , but due to the lockout in the NHL at the beginning of the The Islanders sent the right winger back to the OHL to the Frontenacs for the first half of the season. There he was able to shine for the first time with his offensive production. After the start of the NHL season, the Canadian came to 33 appearances in the jersey of the New Yorkers and scored four points. In the following season, Lindros' missions were limited to only 18. After he had suffered another concussion in the preseason, two more followed in November 1995, which meant that Lindros had to struggle with the secondary symptoms more than before and couldn't get back on the ice. Three doctors treating independently then advised that Lindros should end his career at the age of 20 to prevent further harm. He followed this advice on May 1, 1996 at a press conference.
After retiring from his career, Lindros worked in television in the Toronto area and hosted numerous ice hockey-themed television productions. On February 18, 2001, he was seriously but not fatally injured as a passenger in a snowmobile accident . The drunk snowmobile driver had driven the vehicle into a rocky stretch of shore on frozen Crane Lake , about three hours from Toronto. As a result, he later had to answer in court, as did Lindros, who had driven another snowmobile before the accident without a license.
