Brian Groder

Brian Groder (* 1953 in New York City ) is an American jazz trumpeter (also flugelhorn ) and composer .

Live and act

Groder comes from a family of musicians and learned to trumpet and flugelhorn at an early age. He began his career in hotel and casino bands in Atlantic City, where he accompanied guest pop musicians. He then lived in Philadelphia, where he mainly taught. The first recordings were made in 1989 in Pennsylvania with the formation Abstract Truth . After moving to New York City in the early 1990s, Groder worked with his own ensembles such as Double Perceptions (with Rez Abbasi , Dominic Duval , Newman Taylor Baker ). In 1993 he made his debut album Ancestral Tongues . He has also since worked with Taylor Ho Bynum , JD Parran , Blaise Siwula , Joanne Brackeen , Burton Greene , Katsuyuki Itakura , Francesca Tanksley , Ronald Thomas , Kevin Kuhn , Dennis Sandole , Andy McKee , Nobu Stowe and John McLellan . With saxophonist Sam Rivers , Doug Mathews and Anthony Cole , he recorded the album Torqu (Latham) in April 2005 , which attracted attention from jazz critics. He also worked as a composer with the choreographer Cherylyn Lavergnino ( Music for Dance , New York City 2006). In the field of jazz he was involved in six recording sessions between 1989 and 2011.
