Brian Percival

Brian S. Percival (* 1962 in Liverpool ) is an English director who won a Primetime Emmy for Downton Abbey in 2011 and who became a cinema director in 2013 with The Book Thief.

Career

From 1973 to 1980 he attended New Heys Comprehensive School. He then graduated from Wrexham Art College . After graduating, he mainly made music videos and short films for television in 35mm format for a longer period of time . In 2001 he won a short BAFTA for his short film About a Girl (9 minutes) .

He worked for English television for the following decade. B. the television films Pleasureland (2003) for Channel 4 , North & South (2004 miniseries), The Ruby in the Smoke (2006), Der Raritätenladen (Old Curiosity Shop) (2007) and Gracie! (2009). Properly known he was only with the television series Downton Abbey , for which he with the Craft Award of BAFTA and an Emmy Award. The 2009 low-budget film A Boy Called Dad was his first feature film. Only after receiving his awards was he able to bring out his first major feature film in 2013 with the feature film The Book Thief with Geoffrey Rush and Emily Watson in the leading roles.
