Brian Selznick (born July 14, 1966 in East Brunswick , New Jersey ) is an American illustrator and author of children's and youth literature .

Life

Brian Selznick grew up in East Brunswick Township, New Jersey, as the eldest of three siblings. A mural depicting a dinosaur brought him great recognition as a fifth grader and encouraged him to turn talent into a profession. He graduated from the Rhode Island School of Design . He then worked in a children's bookstore in Manhattan for three years .

His book The Discovery of Hugo Cabret was adapted as a film by Martin Scorsese in 2011 and won several Oscars . 2017 was followed by the film version of his book Miracle Light by Todd Haynes , with Selznick was also responsible for the script itself.

Brian Selznick currently resides in both Brooklyn , New York and San Diego , California.
