Caldecott Medal

The Caldecott Medal is an American literary award given to the illustrator of the best children's picture book of the year by the Association for Library Service to Children , a subgroup of the American Library Association , since 1938 . The award is named after Randolph Caldecott , a 19th century illustrator.

In addition to the Newbery Medal , the Caldecott Medal is the most important children's book award in the USA.

A main prize ( Caldecott Medal ) and several honorary awards ( Caldecott Honor ) are presented each year .
