Brigitte Scherb (born July 14, 1954 in Dennhausen ) is a German lawyer and was President of the German Rural Women's Association (dlv) from 2007 to 2019 .

Live and act

Brigitte Scherb grew up on the family farm in Dennhausen in the Kassel district . After graduating from high school, she studied law at the Georg-August University in Göttingen from 1973 to 1977 . In 1984 she also passed an exam to become an assistant in rural housekeeping .

Scherb has been managing director of the Obere Innerste waters maintenance association since 1993 and, at the same time, was the joint manager of a farm in Bredelem ( Goslar district ) with her husband until 2013 .

Brigitte Scherb is married to a farmer and has three grown children.

Volunteering

When she joined the LandFrauenverein Goslar in 1980, she began her voluntary and women's political commitment to the interests of farmers and rural women. From 1994 to 2004 Scherb was a member of the board of the Lower Saxony Rural Women’s Association in Hanover (NLV), from 2002 to 2014 its state chairman.

From 2007 to 2019 Brigitte Scherb was President of the German Rural Women's Association (dlv), the amalgamation of 22 regional associations with around 500,000 women members nationwide. She was confirmed as President in 2011 and 2015. During her term of office, important women's political issues were incorporated into rural women's work. These included u. a. Issues such as equal pay for women, the fight for maternal pensions, advocating more women in parliaments, providing rural areas with childcare, equal living and working conditions for rural areas or digital change in voluntary work. Under Scherb's aegis, the action days of the German Rural Women's Association were introduced, which have been taking place every two years nationwide since 2011 in order to draw the attention of local, state and federal politics to the issues of rural women. Scherb had succeeded in breaking down the widespread cliché about baking and cooking rural women and giving the association an active, women's political image without losing sight of the concerns of the farmers' wives.

The Lower Saxony CDU parliamentary group sent Scherb to the Federal Assembly in 2012 on the occasion of the election of the Federal President .

Awards

For her voluntary commitment to the interests of rural women, she was awarded the Cross of Merit 1st Class of the Lower Saxony Order of Merit in October 2009 and the Cross of Merit on Ribbon of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany in August 2015 .
