The village of Bredelem is located on the edge of the Harz Mountains in the Goslar district and belongs to the town of Langelsheim .

history

Bredelem was first mentioned in 1147. Located to the left of the Innerste , the fertile soil on the bank of the river was probably the basis of the settlement. The area of ​​today's village was settled much earlier.

In 1830 a fire almost completely destroyed the village. During the reconstruction, it was laid out more generously in order to counteract similar disasters in the future with wider paths and roads.

Bredelem was incorporated into the city of Langelsheim on July 1, 1972 on the occasion of the Lower Saxony regional reform.

Culture and sights

  • The almost 17 m long barrow , the Bredelem gallery grave, found in 1959 , is an approximately 5000 year old megalithic complex from the Neolithic .
  • St. Matthew's Church was built from 1846 to 1847 on the site of the previous building, which had been demolished at the time, as a flat-roofed hall building with a west tower. Some remains of the previous building are still preserved in today's church.
  • Philipp Furtwängler built his twelfth organ in the church in 1847/48, and today it sounds in its restored original condition.
