Traffic in Iserlohn

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Transport network

The traffic-tapping Iserlohn is established through the track or the street. There is only one airfield in the district of Kesbern (Hegenscheid) and the two glider airfields Iserlohn-Rheinermark and Sümmern (Rombrock) . The nearest airport is in Dortmund .

Lenne and Ruhr are not navigable in the city area. The next inland port is the port of Dortmund .

Road traffic

The road network in the urban area is 527 km long.

Highway

The federal motorway 46 ( Heinsberg - Bestwig ) runs through Iserlohn with a length of 11 km in the urban area. The motorway has five junctions in the Iserlohn city area ( IS-Letmathe , IS-Oestrich , IS-Zentrum , IS-Seilersee , Hemer ). Another junction ( HA-Elsey / IS-Letmathe-West ) is located near the city limits in the Hagen city area .

The first plans for the motorway date back to the 1930s, but were not pursued any further at that time. The motorway was then specifically planned in the 1960s. Construction took place in the Letmath area from 1967. The first section from Elsey to Iserlohn-Zentrum (at that time initially Iserlohn-West ) was opened on November 21, 1974, the remaining section to Hemer on May 4, 1976.

The route over the Seilersee recreation area including the bridge over the lake was criticized from the start, but was justified with its future supraregional importance. The continuation of the A 46 via Hemer and Menden to Arnsberg-Neheim was no longer implemented in the 1970s because planning stalled for ecological reasons. In the late 2000s, planning was pushed to at least Menden.

A motorway junction with the A 443 to Unna and Hamm was planned at the Seilersee , but this was rejected. Exits on the A 1 ( Hagen-Nord ), A 45 ( Kreuz Hagen ) and A 44 ( Unna-Ost / former A 443) point to Iserlohn.

Federal highways

The B 233 in Kalthof

The federal highways 7 , 233 and 236 run through Iserlohn . The federal roads are 16 km long.

The B 7 ( Düsseldorf - Rochlitz ) used to lead through Letmathe , the green and Iserlohn city center. The route was moved to the A 46 between Hagen-Elsey and Hemer in the 1990s. Only a few hundred meters long section between the Hemer connection and the city limits to Hemer remains. The inner-city route was replaced by the L 743.

Coming from Unna, the B 233 touches the districts of Drüpplingsen , Kalthof and Iserlohner Heide and ends at the A 46 at the Seilersee junction . The route of the A 443 was planned in the approximate course of the federal road, which was discarded. Until the 1990s, the B 233 led from Iserlohner Heide directly into the city center and ended at the B 7. With the relocation of the B 7 to the motorway, the course of the B 233 was also changed.

The B 236 from Olfen via Schwerte to Altena and Münchhausen runs through Letmathe. Until the 1990s, the road ran through the center of the Letmathe district, and has since been routed via the A 46 between the exits IS-Letmathe and IS-Oestrich and via the motorway slip road in Oestrich.

State roads

Several state roads with a length of 56 km run through the city area.

Coming from the north-west of Schwerte, the L 648 ( Dortmunder Straße ) joins the A 46 Iserlohn-Zentrum and the city center. The road leaves the city center southwards through the Lägertal and ends south of Kesbern on the L 888.

From the B 233, the L 676 opens up the districts of Hennen and Rheinen and leads through the Ruhr valley to Schwerte. From a junction in Rheinen, the L 677 leads north to Holzwickede .

Coming from Menden, the L 680 reaches the Iserlohn city area in the Rombrock and Sümmern area and leads down into the Baarbach valley . There it joins the B 233. From Iserlohner Heide, the L 680 takes over the old route of the B 233 to the city center. The Wermingsen district is developed from the city center to the east . The L 680 ends near the city limits of Hemer on the L 682. The L 682 comes here from Hemer and leads to the junction of the A 46 at the Seilersee. There it leads north on the same route as the B 233, branches off a few hundred meters north and leads as a bypass road to Sümmerns ( Landhauser Straße ) to the L 680.

The L 743 takes over the earlier course of the B 7 from the city limits to Hagen via Letmathe, Grüne , Iserlohn-Zentrum to the A-46 junction Hemer , where the B 7 continues.

The L 899 begins north of the Grüner at the L 743. The road runs west over the Grüner Mitte to the intersection with the L 743 and the K 17. The L 888 begins at the Grüner Mitte at the L 899, and the L 888 starts southwards Developing villages in the Green Valley. The L 888 ends in Hemer-Ihmert.

County roads

The streets in the city area, which are dedicated as district streets, have a length of 19 km.

The K 16 connects Menden-Halingen and Rombrock in the northeast of Iserlohn and ends at the L 680. The course from Rombrock through Sümmern has been graduated. South of Sümmern, the K 16 leads from the L 682 via Landhausen to Hemer.

The K 17 connects the districts of Grüne (L 743 / L 899) and Dröschede with Gerlingsen (L 648) and the Iserlohner Heide (L 680). The K 18 opens up the southern city center and the train station area. The K 19 runs within the city limits from the B 236 near Stübbeken via Grürmannsheide to Kalthof (B 233). At Grürmannsheide, the K 22 branches off to Schwerte-Ergste.

Other roads

From 1967, the city center was restructured in a large-scale project. Since then, a road ring has led around the city center, in which almost all streets have been converted into pedestrian zones. The pedestrian zone was completed in 1979.

Rail transport

Iserlohn railway station (demolished November / December 2006)
Overview of the new city station (aerial photo 2008)

There are three railway lines running through Iserlohn with six stations:

Two other stations ( Iserlohn Ost , Buchenwäldchen) were closed. The Iserlohn station in the city center was rebuilt around 2007 as a so-called city station and is located at the end of the Ardey Railway (RB 53) and the Iserlohn-Letmathe-Iserlohn railway line .

In the second half of the 19th century several routes through Iserlohn were discussed, especially in the north-south direction. One route should lead from Schwerte through Iserlohn into the green and through the Wixberg to Altena. It would have become part of the Münster – Frankfurt long-distance route. An alternative route should lead from Schwerte to Iserlohner Heide, then to the (future) Seilersee with the main train station there, and via Hemer to Garbeck and Finnentrop to the route in the Lennetal. All of these plans would have resulted in high costs, which ultimately led to failure. Only a few parts of the planning were implemented.

Ruhr-Sieg route

In the 1850s, the Ruhr-Sieg route was built from Hagen through the Lennetal southwards. In 1860 the railway line in Letmathe reached today's urban area. From Iserlohn-Letmathe the route continues south to Altena and to Siegen . The Ruhr-Sieg route is double-track and electrified. Iserlohn-Letmathe train station is the only station in the Iserlohn city area.

As part of the Regionale 2013 structural funding program, Iserlohn is participating in the LenneSchiene project to upgrade the traffic routes in the Lennetal, in particular the Ruhr-Sieg route and the train stations.

In Iserlohn-Letmathe there is a freight station for the transshipment of metal goods (e.g. coils ) from the surrounding metal processing companies.

Letmathe – Fröndenberg railway line

In Iserlohn-Letmathe, the single-track and electrified Iserlohner Bahn branches off from the main line in the Lennetal. In 1864 the Letmathe – Iserlohn section was opened and the center of Iserlohn was thus connected to the rail network. In 1868 the route was expanded and the Dechen Cave was discovered. A breakpoint was set up at the cave.

From 1885 the railway line from Iserlohn (-Westbahnhof) via Iserlohner Ostbahnhof , Hemer and Menden to Fröndenberg was completed. The section between Iserlohn and Menden has been closed to passenger traffic since 1989 and has now been dismantled and converted into a cycling and walking path between Iserlohn and Hemer.

On the Iserlohner Bahn route, the Ruhr-Sieg-Express (RE 16) on the Iserlohn– Hagen - Bochum - Essen route and the Ruhr-Sieg-Bahn (RB 91) on the Iserlohn – Hagen route with a stop at Dechenhöhle and stop in the Letmathe district . Both railways are coupled with trains coming from Siegen at Iserlohn-Letmathe station before they continue to Hagen or Essen, and then separated again in the opposite direction in Iserlohn-Letmathe ( wings ). It is operated by Abellio Rail NRW .

Ardeybahn

The Ardeybahn to Schwerte and Dortmund has existed since 1910 . The Ardeybahn runs on the Iserlohn– Schwerte - Dortmund route with stops in the districts of Iserlohner Heide, Kalthof and Hennen and is operated by DB Regio NRW .

There used to be a tram too .

Bicycle traffic

The city has a connection to the Kaiser route in the Ruhr valley as well as to two regional cycle routes: the Ruhr valley cycle path in the north and the Lenn route in the west. These routes are linked via the butterfly route : from Letmathe you get through the valley of the Grüner Bach and from Hennen through the valley of the Baarbach into the city center to Iserlohn train station . From here the butterfly route leads over the disused railway line of the Letmathe – Fröndenberg railway to the city limits of Hemer and on to the Sauerlandpark Hemer . These routes are supplemented by sections of the NRW cycle network in the city center, on the Seilersee and from Kalthof / Hennen to Schwerte .

Iserlohn bears the title “Bicycle-friendly City” . The signposted cycle network is over 50 km long.
