The Sauerlandpark Hemer is an approximately 27 hectare amusement park in Hemer , which is located on the former site of the State Garden Show 2010 . Essential elements of the garden show park such as the Grohe Forum , the themed gardens, the Jübergturm and the Park of the Senses have been retained. The park opened on April 16, 2011 and offers space for cultural events. The carrier is the Sauerlandpark Hemer GmbH in the form of the renaming of the Landesgartenschau Hemer 2010 GmbH. The Sauerlandpark Hemer actually bears the legacy of the State Garden Show Hemer 2010 through the continued identity of the GmbH.

description

The southern section of the park, the
Senses Gardens, is separated from the beach volleyball field and the slackline course by the Deilinghofer Straße entry and transition .

Compared to the state horticultural show, the main entrance to the park was moved a few meters to the rear between the first two of the four remaining barracks blocks. "Blücher-Platz" is surrounded by these buildings in memory of the former Blücher barracks , at the southern end of which the Grohe Forum is located. The memorial room for Stalag VI A is located in this area, which was located on what was later to be the garden show grounds during the Second World War. The sky mirror , an approximately 2.5 centimeter high and 845 square meter water surface on Blücher-Platz, has also been preserved after the state horticultural show. The themed gardens, which were designed and laid out for the state horticultural show by horticultural companies from the region, connect to the east of the four military buildings. The support association of the State Horticultural Show took care of it. A water playground then connects to the sky ladder and a zigzag path that leads to the Jübergturm .

The “Rollgarten” skate park is connected to the stairs at about half the height. Connected to the south is a beach volleyball field in the area where district gardens were previously located. The Park of the Senses also still belongs to the park area, but is separated from the rest of the Sauerlandpark by Deilinghofer Straße. In this southernmost section of the park there are sensory gardens, such as a sound garden and the Hans-Prinzhorn- Maze . In addition, a beekeeping pavilion was built in this area.

history

State garden show dismantling

The Sauerlandpark was mainly created on the occasion of the Hemer State Garden Show , which counted over a million visitors in the period from April 17 to October 24, 2010. In the application documents for LGS 2010, the city of Hemer announced that the corresponding area would be used as a park. In September 2010, the City Council of Hemer finally took the first decisions on the design of the new park, according to which the petting zoo and meeting point for agriculture in the east, the district gardens in the north and the flower hall in the western part of the site should be dismantled. The sports field on the edge of the LGS site should also not be part of the park in the future, but the other components should largely be retained.

At the end of October 2010, the dismantling of the site began, which was completed with the opening of the Sauerland Park on April 16, 2011. On December 14, 2010, the city council decided to rename the previous Landesgartenschau Hemer 2010 GmbH to Sauerlandpark Hemer GmbH . The name emerged from a public survey in which over 1,500 name suggestions had been submitted.

Two public events took place in the future Sauerlandpark during the renovation phase. In Advent, the city hosted a Christmas get-together in the Park of the Senses, and in February Shaolin monks made guest appearances in the Grohe Forum.

Sauerlandpark Hemer GmbH

The Landesgartenschau Hemer 2010 GmbH was renamed Sauerlandpark Hemer GmbH after a resolution of the city council on February 1, 2011 . The first alderman of Hemer, Guido Forsting, was appointed managing director of the new company . Werner Fingerhut, responsible for the business plan, park maintenance and room design, and Martin Stolte, responsible for events, culture, tourism, marketing and volunteers, work as authorized signatories. Both work full-time in the city administration.

The Sauerlandpark Hemer GmbH is burdened with the deficit of the Landesgartenschau Hemer 2010 GmbH. For the remainder of the 2011 financial year, the GmbH expects a deficit of two million euros to be covered by equity. The expenditure of four million euros is expected to decrease in the following years, as one-off investments and depreciation will be eliminated. According to Mayor Michael Esken, major events such as concerts should be self-sufficient. The Sauerlandpark expects 250,000 visitors in the first year. The Sauerlandpark recorded a total of 257,523 visitors in the season from April 16 to November 6, 2011. This includes 17,966 season tickets. The park area was closed in winter and reopened on April 12, 2012.

For the 2011 financial year, Sauerlandpark Hemer reported a deficit of EUR 2,875,000. The business plan for 2012 expects a deficit of around 2 million euros. It is also intended to convert Sauerlandpark Hemer GmbH into a "non-profit" GmbH for tax purposes .

Logo of the Sauerland Park

Like the logo of the state horticultural show, the successor emblem was designed by the plakart agency from Neuenrade . With the butterfly, the most important style element of the LGS logo is taken up again, the colors of the lettering have also been adopted. A representation of the Jübergturm was added.
