Guido Forsting

Guido Forsting (born September 5, 1960 in Duisburg , North Rhine-Westphalia ; † March 25, 2015 in Wipperfürth ) was a German CDU local politician and from 1999 to 2009 mayor of the city of Wipperfürth in the Oberbergisches Kreis .

Life

After graduating from the Mercator Gymnasium in Duisburg , Guido Forsting joined the German Armed Forces , which awarded him the Medal of Honor after a year of service . He completed his law studies between 1981 and 1988 with the first state examination in law. He then completed his legal clerkship , which he completed with the second state examination. During this time he worked as a permanent employee in a law firm in Duisburg.

In 1991 Forsting got into administration. Officially employed by the legal office of the district of Verden , he was part of a delegation in the district of Wittenberg , where he headed the legal office and became the personal assistant to the district administrator. Since 1992 he has lectured at the study institute for municipal administration , two years later he was appointed head of the legal department in the Halberstadt district . He took over the chairmanship of the personnel committee for system proximity, in order to check employees for Stasi work .

Guido Forsting was a founding member of the Wipperfürth Rotary Club , and since 2004 he has been chairman of the DRK local group in Wipperfürth. He was married and had two daughters.

Guido Forsting died on March 25, 2015 in his home in Wipperfürth.

Forsting had been a CDU member since 1995. The following year the council of the city of Wipperfürth elected him first alderman . He also became the managing director of the Wipperfürth housing and development company and was given a seat on the youth, social and health committee of the North Rhine-Westphalian Association of Towns and Municipalities .

The CDU Wipperfürth elected Forsting on August 27, 1998 as candidate for mayor. In the following year he prevailed in the direct election for the office and became full-time mayor of the city of Wipperfürth. He also became chairman of the supervisory board of Bergische Energie und Wasser GmbH and a member of the main committee in the association of towns and municipalities.

After re-election in 2004, he lent his predecessor Hans-Leo Kausemann the honorary citizenship . In 2009, Guido Forsting lost to Michael von Rekowski , the joint candidate of the SPD, the Greens and the UWG, in the mayoral election . With a share of the vote of around 46.7 percent, he had to give up his post in October 2009, which many observers described as "surprising".

Guido Forsting placed a focus of his work on the expansion of building land and the industrial areas Klingsiepen I and II . In addition, the construction of a new fire station and a multi-purpose hall in Kreuzberg fell during his term of office. He initiated the community foundation "Wir Wipperfürther".

On January 19, 2010, the City Council of Hemer Forsting elected First Alderman with one abstention . After four competitors left, he was the only candidate and took over the office of his predecessor Peter Friedrich on April 1, 2010 for a period of eight years. He was thus the general representative of the mayor in administrative tasks. He was responsible for the areas of planning, construction, transport, and the environment office and also took over the youth welfare office for the departed advisor. On February 1, 2011, he was also given the management of Sauerlandpark Hemer , the successor park to the 2010 State Horticultural Show . In addition to being responsible for the youth welfare office, he was the contact person for the Seniors' Advisory Council of the City of Hemer.

When city treasurer Werner Dodt left at the end of 2012, Guido Forsting succeeded him. In addition to municipal finances, his Department II also included youth, family, senior citizens and social affairs. The management of the Sauerlandpark remained in his hands.
