The Brigitten ( English Sisters of St. Brigid or Brigidine Sisters , religious symbol : CSB ) or Sisters of Saint. Brigitta are named after their founder Brigitta von Kildare (451–523). St. Brigitta of Kildare, also known as Brigida of Kildare, is the patron saint of Ireland.

history

The members of the religious community founded by Abbess Brigitta lived according to the Rule of Augustine and made solemn vows . Under Henry VIII (1491–1547) all the monasteries created by Brigitta were dissolved. Todays situation

The congregation is mainly based in English-speaking countries and, with its approximately 365 sisters (as of 2002), looks after institutions in the United Kingdom , Ireland , Australia , New Zealand and the United States . In these countries several institutions and educational institutions bear the name of St. Brigitta.
