The gamer Santiago is a day thief who lives with his mother and occasionally hangs up as a DJ in a club owned by gang boss Che Longana. When Santiago involuntarily witnesses a conversation in the club's toilet about the dreaded and killing bounty hunter Machine Gun Woman in lingerie , Santiago is caught and is to be shot. In his desperation, he claims to be able to find the Machine Gun Woman without any problems and to extradite Che Longana. Longana, amused, gives him a chance, but gives him an ultimatum.
For Santiago begins a turbulent odyssey through a metropolitan jungle of criminals and various shootings that he gets into, he can only survive with dreamlike luck. In the end, he actually manages to meet the Machine Gun Woman. What Santiago doesn't know is that two killer longanas followed him to finish them both off. After the Machine Gun Woman clears up the situation without any problems, she threatens to shoot Santiago too, but feels sorry for him and lets him go. Santiago, who fears Longana's revenge, tries to flee the city with his mother, but is caught in his apartment by Longana and his right hand Flavio. Longana threatens to shoot his mother if he doesn't find the Machine Gun Woman immediately.
Santiago succeeds again in clinging to the heels of the Machine Gun Woman and even succeeds in freeing her from a precarious situation and bringing down another killer longanas. After Santiago successfully removes a bullet from the MG woman, the ice is broken and the two of them have sex in a shot-up jeep. Now they want to go on Longana together. However, since Santiago forgot to mention that his mother is still Longana's hostage, the attack goes bad and the Machine Gun Woman turns in to save his mother. Now, however, Santiago is determined to bring the matter to an end, storms Longanas Club armed to the teeth and rivets anyone who crosses his path. Eventually he and the liberating Machine Gun Woman overcome Flavio and Longana as well.
After a deep kiss, the Machine Gun Woman leaves Santiago, who is in love with both ears. He doesn't want to accept it and races after her in a stolen car until he is stopped by the police. The game is over.
Background and reception
Bring me the Head of the Machine Gun Woman was written and directed by Ernesto Díaz Espinoza, a well-known director of South American action cinema despite his comparatively young age (see e.g. Mirageman Kicks Ass ). The film premiered on September 23, 2012 during the Austin Fantastic Fest in the USA and was subsequently shown at various other international film festivals until it opened in Chilean cinemas on May 23, 2013. The film was also shown in selected cinemas in the USA and Great Britain, and dubbed on DVD in Germany and France.
The action film, shot on a comparatively low budget, is reminiscent of the Grindhouse films by Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino . Stylistically and musically, there are borrowings from the heyday of exploitation films in the 1970s and 1980s. Special camera perspectives and overlays like Mission accomplished make the flick look like a film adaptation of the classic action game Grand Theft Auto . The film was mostly reviewed as trashy , but amusing and worth watching. The director has a knack for the subject he has chosen.
