Brinna Otto

Brinna Dorothea Otto (born July 21, 1938 in Mannheim ) is a German classical archaeologist .

Brinna Otto was born in 1972 with Tonio Hölscher at the Institute for Classical Archeology at the University of Heidelberg with a thesis on the subject of geometric ornaments on Anatolian ceramics. Symmetries frühester decorative forms in the Middle East and the Aegean doctorate . She then worked as a research assistant at the Heidelberg Institute until 1974. The habilitation took place in 1982 with the thesis The Decorated Ceramics of the Sesklo and Diminiculture of Thessaly at the Institute for Classical and Provincial Roman Archeology at the University of Innsbruck . A year later, Otto took over the management of the Magna Graecia Research Center at Innsbruck University as an associate professor . In 2003 she retired, but is still assigned to the Institute of Archeology as head of research projects.

In 1995 Otto became head of the excavations of the Demeter sanctuary in Herakleia ( Policoro ). When a major exhibition in Italy, I Greci in Occidente , was held in 1996 on the relationships between the ancient Greeks and oriental cultures, they organized a thematically appropriate exhibition with finds from the Demeter sanctuary of Herakleia at the University of Innsbruck. The city of Policoro made Otto an honorary citizen on September 19, 2009 because of her significant achievements in the research of ancient Herakleia .
