Friedrich Krinzinger

Friedrich Krinzinger (born August 6, 1940 in Sipbachzell , Upper Austria ) is an Austrian classical archaeologist .

After graduating from the Stiftsgymnasium Kremsmünster in 1958, Friedrich Krinzinger studied in Innsbruck and Vienna. From 1971 he carried out excavations in the southern Italian city of Elea , and has been the excavation manager since 1983. From 1989 to 2008 he was a university professor at the University of Vienna . He is a real member of the philosophical-historical class of the Austrian Academy of Sciences (ÖAW). In 1994 he became head of the Archeology Research Center at the Academy and later director of the Institute for Ancient Cultural History at the Academy. From 1994 to 2006 he was director of the Austrian Archaeological Institute , in this function also from 1998 to the end of 2007 he was head of excavations in Ephesus .

Krinzinger is married to the gallery owner and art dealer Ursula Krinzinger .
