Gerhard Langmann

Gerhard Anton Langmann (born October 27, 1932 in Vienna ; † August 4, 2001 there ) was an Austrian archaeologist .

Since 1953 he studied classical archeology, ancient history and classical philology at the University of Vienna , where he received his doctorate in 1958 with Hedwig Kenner with the thesis The archeology of the federal state of Salzburg . From 1960 he worked for the Austrian Archaeological Institute and worked on the excavations at Ephesus . In 1978 the Turkish city of Selçuk made him an honorary citizen . From 1986 until his retirement in 1994 he was director of the Austrian Archaeological Institute. Since 1982 he has been honorary professor for Roman Provincial Archeology at the University of Vienna. Langmann was buried at the Dornbach cemetery .
