British Electric Foundation (BEF) is a British music project and production company .

Band history

The British Electric Foundation was established in 1980 in Sheffield ( England ) by Ian Craig Marsh and Martyn Ware ( Heaven 17 ) after its separation from The Human League was founded.

Under this name, the experimental albums Music For Stowaways on cassette and 1981 Music For Listening To , which already contained early versions of some songs from Heaven 17's Penthouse and Pavement , were the early works . BEF performed as the production company for Heaven 17 , Hot Gossip and other artists.

In 1982 the sampler Music of Quality and Distinction was released with guest appearances by Glenn Gregory , Billy Mackenzie , Paula Yates , Gary Glitter , Sandie Shaw and Tina Turner , whose participation shortly afterwards led to her successful comeback.

In 1991 the British Electric Foundation released their album Music of Quality and Distinction - Vol. 2 , which featured Chaka Khan , Green Gartside ( Scritti Politti ), Terence Trent D'Arby , Lalah Hathaway and again Billy Mackenzie , among others .

As in the early years, the last two Heaven 17 albums were again provided with the BEF logo.

In 2011 the British Electric Foundation: published 1981-2011 . In the box is Music of Quality and Distinction - Vol.1 with a total of seven bonus versions, Music of Quality and Distinction - Vol.2 with six bonus versions and Music from Stowaways with three bonus tracks.
